The Okavango - the world's largest inland delta - is home to a great diversity of life (both plant and animal). The Delta is a "must see" on your Botswana Safari. This unique area (now a World Heritage site) dominates the north west of the country. The Kavango River, flowing from Angola, crosses Namibia's Caprivi Strip, and into Botswana (where it becomes the Okavango River).
Much of the Delta is included the beautiful and diverse Moremi Game Reserve. This allows for a surprising number of areas that are available for game drives, allowing for some excellent wildlife sightings. However, a visit is not complete without a mekoro (traditional dug-out canoe) excursion or two, and a walk in this pristine and unique area. Whether you wish to start or finish your African Safari in the Okavango, it should be included on any Botswana itinerary.
